Brief Description
The Assistant Controller will assist with the daily accounting operations of the company. The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting with all corporate accounting activities and functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures and internal control over financial and regulatory reporting, overseeing the accounting close and consolidation process, regulatory reporting, and partners with and advises business lines and other corporate functions on significant accounting matters. Assist with overseeing the daily operations of the accounting staff and provides sufficient guidance and training to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet the Bank’s goals and objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities
· Oversees the daily operations of the accounting staff, supports accounts payable and bank reconciliations.
· Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end preparation of financial statements, reports, budgets, and consolidations.
· Oversee accounts payable processes. Monitor Daily correspondent bank balances.
· Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
· Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls, SOX /FIDICIA, accounting operations processes, policies, and procedures.
· Lead the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis and general ledger accounts.
· Identify areas for process improvements and efficiency in month-end close procedures.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and streamline financial reporting processes.
· Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making for banking business strategies.
· Assist in the data preparation for audits and tax filings for bank’s entities.
· Prepare regulatory reports including the Call report, and FR reports as directed.
· Assist in developing staff goals and objectives, review against objectives and document accordingly.
· Coach, train, and provide regular feedback to the accounting and finance team.
· Actively participate in the implementation of new general ledger software and assist in implementing new core software.
· Assist with development of annual budget with direct input from the Controller, CFO and CEO.
· Assist with internal and external audit processes, ensuring appropriate financial statement disclosures in accordance with US GAAP requirements.
· Prepare and/or supervise accounting staff responsible for the preparation of monthly journal entries.
· Undertake special projects as assigned, providing an opportunity for growth across various areas of the accounting and finance function.
· Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities

· Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or related field required.
· Five years or more of related experience in an accounting, auditing, financial reporting or assistant controller role in a regional bank or experience in the banking and financial services group of a top-tier public accounting firm required.
· Leadership experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects.
· Current knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting principles
· Advanced computer proficiency, in particular Excel highly desired
· Experience with FISERV and Prologue software highly desired
Physical Requirements
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Able to travel as needed.
